RSS Maker has been renamed to the RSS Channel Editor. It includes most of the RSS 0.91 channel elements.

RSS Maker

RSS Maker is a Web based tool that makes it easy to create and maintain RSS files. RSS is an XML format that many content providers are using to create content channels. You can use RSS to display or distribute content on or from your Web site. For more information on the RSS format, visit UserLand RSS Central.

Instructions

To create a customized RSS file, complete as many fields as you can on the RSS Creator form. At a minimum, you must complete the Channel Title and Channel Link and at least one Item Title and Item Link.

You can also load an existing RSS file by typing the URL into the RSS URL field and clicking on the button labeled Fetch. This will load the form with the values from the RSS file. You can then add or edit the form.

Once you have completed the form, click on any of the buttons labeled Build RSS. You will be prompted to save the file to your computer. Make sure you enter a filename that's appropriate.

IMPORTANT: You cannot use any HTML tags in any of the fields or the RSS file will be invalid. You can, however, use any valid HTML entity.

RSS URL

You can retrieve a pre-existing RSS file from the Web by entering the URL into this field and clicking on the button labeled Fetch. This will fill the form fields with the data from the RSS file. i.e. http://slashdot.org/slashdot.rdf

Channel Title

Most content providers enter the name and description of the channel or Web site. i.e. Slashdot:News for Nerds. Stuff that Matters. You must place something in this field or the RSS file will be invalid.

Channel Link

Should contain the URL that the channel links to. This is usually the URL to a Web site that the channel came from. i.e. http://www.slashdot.org

Channel Description

A description of what the channel is or contains. i.e. News for Nerds. Stuff that Matters.

Language

English is selected by default. If you use another language, select it from the drop-down menu.

PICS Rating

The PICS rating for the channel (if you have one).

Managing Editor

The channel editor's email address. i.e. eisen@internet.com

Webmaster

The channel Webmater's email address. i.e. eisen@internet.com

Copyright

The channel copyright notice.

Publish Date

The date the channel was last published. i.e. Thu, 08 Jul 1999 16:20:26 GMT

Last Build

The last time the channel was edited. i.e. Thu, 08 Jul 1999 16:20:26 GMT

Image Title

The image title is roughly equivelant to the alt attribute of the img HTML element.

Image URL

The HTTP URL of the image. i.e. http://slashdot.org/images/slashdotlg.gif

Image Link

The HTTP URL that the image should be linked to if a users clicks on it.

Image Width

The pixel width the image should be displayed

Image Height

The pixel height the image should be displayed

Image Description

The image description

Input Title

The text that should be displayed next to the HTML input field.

Input Name

The HTML input field name.

Input Link

The URL that the form submits the input to. This is usually a CGI script.

Input Desc

A description of the text input field.

Item Title

The item summary. i.e. Bizzare Answers from Cult of the Dead Cow

Item Link

A URL that links to the item. i.e. http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=99/10/22/1157259

Input Title

The title that should be displayed on the submit button.

Input Name

The HTML form input name that will be sent to the input script.

Input Link

The URL of the script that the textinput submits queries to. i.e. http://www.foo.bar/cgi-bin/search.cgi

Input Desc

The text that should be placed next to the HTMl form field.

RSS Channel Editor

Begin: Start by entering the number of items you will need in your file (you need at least 1 item), then click the "Generate Form" button. Complete the form as described above then click the "Build RSS" button to make your RSS Channel file.
